The National Cancer Institute published a new post over at their Cancer Current Blog about how the incidence of cancers of the lower stomach is increasing in Americans younger than 50.

This report is interesting, in that the general occurrence rate of stomach cancers has been decreasing in the entire U.S. population for several decades.

Why is this happening?

It’s the emergence of autoimmune gastritis that this is being attributed to.

And the rise of this type of cancer is especially alarming for younger women, with rates of a “new type of stomach cancer” rising for this segment among all others.

There’s some really great additional information in the report, so be sure to check it out.
